Hello everyone!

It has been a beautiful week here in Kalamazoo! With the past few days all hitting 60 degrees and the sun shining strong, I have had some great opportunities to go out and take some photos with my HF11 with Jag35 and Canon 70mm-210mm lens (which really really likes the sun because it is a suuuuuper slow lens…). I LOVE my camera, and more so, I love walking around with my camera while the sun is hitting my face.

Take a look at some new photography! I am still fine tuning this setup, and every time I use it, I like it more!

Yesterday, Melissa and I returned from a week in San Francisco, which in my opinion, is the greatest city in the United States. I am currently working on a travel highlight video of this beautiful city, which I will post as soon as it is complete! I hope everyone had a wonderful week!

Phew! The last month has been intense for me, and I finally just finished the last of the work on a major video project for Churubusco High School in Churubusco, Indiana yesterday. Now, I finally get some time to myself, and Melissa and I are taking a nice vacation to San Francisco on Sunday for our Spring Break. I couldn’t be more excited! I am so glad all these projects are wrapped up – so I thought I would post what I have been working on!

First, for the Fall 2009 semester, I worked for the College of Arts and Sciences producing a video to welcome visitors to their website. The video was done in early January, and after a few weeks of being passed around to various departments and deans, the video was approved and is now on the WMU CAS homepage! Check it out!

I also worked on a project with the WMU School of Dance. Brian Lane and I shot this interesting combination of ballet and video, and then over winter break and in the early part of this semester, I edited and produced the final piece. During the performance, a screen was moved around the stage as dancers accompanied and interacted with their screen “cine” people. It was very interesting to watch, and was very well received by the audience at the 2010 Winter Dance Gala. The video is a little strange to watch by itself without seeing the dancers on stage, but you can kind of get the idea. Whatever the case…that HD sure does look pretty!

It’s been super busy, and there have been a lot of other projects I have been working on that I unfortunately can’t post. But for now, get ready for some wonderful vacation style blogging as I take a break from the Midwest and work for a bit and enjoy what the west coast has to offer.

Sorry for the continued lack of regular updates. I have been super busy getting Great Lakes Cinema Group fully up and running, and we have been very busy shooting and editing numerous business profiles and event videos. I am also very busy getting ready to graduate on May 1st! I can’t wait! But for now, it is still the continual stream of essays, readings, producing videos and songs, and other busy work.

As far as other things are going, life is really wonderful! Melissa and I are heading to SAN FRANCISCO in less than two weeks to visit the most wonderful city in the world and my family that lives there. We couldn’t be more excited.

Hopefully, the work load will lift a little after Spring Break, and I will have some time to post some pictures and video of our trip to SF, as well as some other video art I have been working on.

Well, 2009 is finally over, and another year of film production and random blogging here at Jake Durrett Dot Com is kicking off! A lot of wonderful things happened in this past year. I began shooting on 16MM film in the Spring, had an exhilarating and adventurous summer in Maine, purchased a new Canon HF11 camera in the early fall, fell in love with my new Jag35e DOF adapter and Canon 35mm lens, shot and edit more than four short films, and worked on more than 25 different and unique projects.

It was a busy but wonderful year, and you can expect that 2010 will only be more busy and more intense. I plan on trying to produce if not weekly, than bi-weekly video project for your viewing enjoyment. Also, be on the look out for some great changes in terms of my own production company, Jake Durrett Films, as it moves into a new chapter of video production and services in the Kalamazoo and greater Southwest Michigan area.

So again, Happy New Year everyone! Best wishes for 2010! See you see!
