A Brief bio before you dive into the Portfolio:
Jake Durrett, 21, is a Kalamazoo based filmmaker and a senior at Western Michigan University. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Lambda Phi Eta honor society, and works in numerous offices and classes around campus as a student, employee, and mentor. In 2005, he started his own film production company, Jake Durrett Films, which now provides professional video services in Southwest Michigan and the surrounding state, working with many large companies producing video, including the National Science Foundation and Shure Inc.
In the summer of 2007, he attended the Adobe Reel Ideas Studio student filmmaker program at the Cannes Film Festival on the southern coast of France. There, his documentary “The Carousel” received a first place ranking. He has worked with numerous industry professionals, including Chris Coppola at the 2007 PAH-Fest in New Mexico. In the summer of 2006, he co-founded the Battle Creek Film Festival in his hometown of Battle Creek, MI, and in 2009, helped coordinate the the first Western Michigan University Third Coast Film Festival. In the summers of 2008 and 2009, he worked as a camp counselor and head video coordinator at a children’s summer camp in Freedom, Maine. In the fall of 2008, he worked as both a New-media and GOTV intern on the Obama for America campaign, as well as closely with the student group on campus, WMU Students for Barack Obama. In 2009-2010, he produced videos for The WMU College of Arts and Sciences and The WMU School of Dance, working as a cinematographer, editor, and producer.
He currently works in almost all aspects of film and video production, web design, and graphic design for numerous production companies including TurnHere and Absolute Video. He plans to continue his work in the media arts after graduation as a professional cinematographer and independent filmmaker. He is a Great Lakes Cinema Group co-owner and a Final Cut Pro specialist.
